Peachtree Battle Shopping Center
ADA & Storm Drainage Improvements
Atlanta, Georgia

Client Challenge:

Due to increased development within the drainage basin, one of the major tenants was constantly experiencing flooding in the parking lot and into the building.  As a result the client was receiving constant complaints; the major tenant was loosing business and was threatening to terminate their lease.

PRIME Solution:

By conducting an extensive study and evaluation of the facility, Prime determined the existing storm drainage system had become too small to handle the flows generated from all the new upstream development.  To resolve the problem in the most economical manner, Prime redesigned the collection system and modified the parking lot grades to better manage the flooding problems.  The corrections have resulted in the tenant with no flooding problems and more business and a client with fewer complaints.

Prime Engineering, Inc. is prime consultant to Branch Properties to ensure that Peachtree Battle Shopping Center, specifically the Promenade, is in compliance with the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).  Services include engineering studies, field survey, and engineering drawings for modifying the handicapped parking, ramps, and signage.  Additionally,

Prime provided detail design, surveying, permitting, bidding and construction management services for the storm drainage collection system modifications at Peachtree Battle Shopping Center in Atlanta, Georgia.  The primary purpose of the project is to minimize the impacts of local flooding on buildings in the development.

Storm drainage collection system scope and services included:
  • Modifications to the storm drainage collection system along the main interior (north/south) road located between the main shopping center and Peachtree Street.  These modifications will include adding additional hooded drop inlets, piping and curb cuts to reduce ponding and provide for emergency overflow into the collection system.
  • Modifications to the storm drainage collection system along the rear of the main shopping center.  These modifications will include adding additional hooded drop inlets, piping, flumes and curb cuts to reduce ponding and provide for emergency overflow into the collection system.  In addition, upsizing storm drainage pipes will be considered.
  • Modifications to the storm drainage collection system between Publix and the main shopping center.  These modifications will include adding additional hooded drop inlets and piping to reduce ponding and provide for emergency overflow into the collection system.
  • Modifications to the storm drainage collection system along the east side of Publix and along the entrance at Terrace Drive.  These modifications will include adding additional hooded drop inlets and modifying the entrance/exit apron reduce ponding and provide for emergency overflow into the collection system.
  • Modifications to the storm drainage collection system along the rear of Publix (truck dock/loading/unloading area).  These modifications in this area will be analyzed to determine if a more reliable gravity overflow system can be installed or a new storm drainage lift station will required.
