Charleston International Airport, South Carolina

Client Challenge:

Aging aircraft ground power systems with high maintenance costs and obsolete replacement parts had become a limiting factor for gate aircraft mix and lease attraction.

PRIME Solution:

Conducted feasibility studies and cost benefit analysis for upgrades to determine effectiveness of a point-of-use power upgrade and replacement vs. a new central system.  Proposed solution will realize a maintenance cost reduction of 50%.

Prime Engineering provided fueling, civil, environmental, and electrical engineering services for upgrades of passenger loading and aircraft support systems at the Charleston International Airport.

Project scope included modification and/or replacement of the following items:

  • Site stormwater piping and containment control
  • Fueling control systems
  • Fuel pumping and dispensing systems
  • Pumping station fuel containment pad
  • Overfill/grounding verification systems
  • Site grading
  • Emergency power systems
  • 400 Hz Ground Service System
